Throughout her life, Mata Amritanandamayi has embraced and comforted more than 34 million people. Amma inspires, uplifts, and transforms through her physical embrace, her spiritual wisdom and through her global charities, known as Embracing the World.®When asked where she gets the energy to help so many people, she answers: "Where there is true love, anything is effortless."
While Amma is widely regarded as one of India’s foremost spiritual leaders, Amma says that her religion is love.

In Amma's"To wage wars, we spend billions of dollars and engage countless people. Think of how much attention and intense effort go into that process! If we were to use even a fraction of that money and effort for the sake of world peace, we could definitely bring about peace and harmony in this world. There are over a billion people in this world suffering from poverty and starvation. Poverty, in truth, is our greatest enemy. It is one of the basic reasons why people commit theft and murder, and why people become terrorists. It is also the reason why people turn to prostitution. Poverty not only affects the body, but also weakens the mind. And such minds are then influenced in the name of religion and injected with the poison of terrorist ideals. Looking at it this way, Amma feels that 80% of the problems in society would be resolved if we were to eradicate poverty. If, in the future, there is a third world war, let it not be a war between nations, but a war against our common enemy, poverty. Once poverty is eradicated, peace will prevail."
